latino

In everyday Spanish, latino almost always means Latin American - people, music, food, culture from Latin America - not "Latin" in the ancient Roman sense (that reading survives mainly in set phrases like lengua latina, the Latin language). English narrows the word further still: "Latino" in American English usually names people of Latin American descent living in the US specifically, a sense Spanish speakers in Latin America itself do not use.
