Market Morning

The sun is low. It is early, and the air is cold. Anna walks to the shops with her father. The street is busy. Many people come to the shops in the morning.

The street is full of sound. People sell food and call out. "Good fish!" a man calls. "Come and buy!" A woman calls out, "Hot food, hot food!" Anna hears the voices all around her.

Anna looks at the tables. She sees fish and food. She sees red flowers and white flowers. She sees glasses of tea and water. The food looks good in the morning light. Anna feels happy.

Her father wants to buy food. He walks to a man who sells fish. "Good morning," her father says. "How much is one fish?" The man smiles. "It is a good fish, and it is a good price." Her father gives him some money. He takes the fish for dinner and puts it in his bag.

Anna wants flowers. She goes to a woman who sells them. The flowers are red and white. "How much?" Anna asks. "Not much," the woman says. "Take two." Anna gives her money from her bag. She takes two white flowers and holds them.

Then Anna hears a new voice. "Water! Cold water!" A boy stands at a table with water and tea. Some people want cold water, and some want hot tea. Anna and her father wait. Her father buys two glasses of hot tea.

The tea is hot and sweet. Anna holds her glass and drinks. Some children laugh and run by the tables. A dog sits by a man and looks for food. The shops are full of life.

There are many people now. A boy runs past with a box. The sun is high, and the air is hot. Anna looks at her flowers and drinks her tea. It is sweet and good.

"This is a good morning," Anna says. Her father smiles. "We have fish for dinner, and you have flowers. It is good." They walk home in the hot morning sun. The bag is full. Anna is happy. She loves the shops in the morning.
