Story milestone: top 800 words

Today is a big day at Emma's school. All the children come to school. The sun is out. It is time for the school run.

The children stand in a line. Emma looks at the other children. Tom is big. Sam is bigger than Tom. Ben is the biggest of all. Ben runs very fast. "Ben is quicker than me," Emma says. She is not happy.

A man calls out. "Get ready!" he says. He counts: "One! Two! Three!" Then all the children run.

Emma is at the back. She runs and runs, and the other children run away. Emma is last. "I am last," she thinks. Then Emma runs harder.

Then Emma is quick. She runs fast now. Her legs move fast. She runs after the other children. She hurries. She catches four children. Then she catches two more.

Now Emma is quicker than Sam. She is quicker than Tom too. The people stand up. They call out. "Run, Emma, run!" they call.

Only Ben is quicker. Ben is the quickest of all. Emma runs and runs. She reaches Ben. Now Emma and Ben run together. They are the first two.

Emma runs so hard. She looks at the line. Then Emma runs past Ben. Emma is first! She wins the school run.

The people call. All the people call out. Emma stops and stands still. She is really happy. Her friends run to her. They hold her. "You are so quick!" says Tom. "You are the quickest of all," says Sam.

Emma's mother comes to school. She holds Emma. "I am so glad," her mother says. Emma feels glad too. She is very tired, but she is happy.

A man gives Emma a little ball. The ball is small, but Emma loves it. She holds it high.

The children walk home. "The next run is next week," Emma says. "I am quick now. I am really quick!"
