How to actually learn Esperanto
The language is measurably quicker to learn - and the famous springboard claim was tested three times across 400 children and not found. What the evidence really says, the plateau traps, and the ladder that works.

Quicker, yes - a springboard, no
Esperanto is measurably faster to learn than national languages - the controlled studies show learners gaining far more of it per hour of teaching. But the famous claim that learning Esperanto first speeds up your later French was tested three times at Essex, across more than 400 children, and not found. Learn it for its own speed and its own community; both are real.

Beware the eterna komencanto
The community has a word for the learner who circles beginner courses forever: la eterna komencanto, the eternal beginner. The escape is production - write a diary, speak at events, let the graded readers pull you up level by level. Recognising ten thousand words you have never once produced is the plateau; using two thousand is fluency.
