elŝuti

This is the word that proves the language still works. Esperanto stopped being fashionable long before anyone needed a verb for downloading, and it got one anyway, out of parts that were already lying around. Ŝuti means to pour or tip a loose mass, gravel or grain or coal. El means out of. So elŝuti is to tip it out of the net, and alŝuti is to tip it towards the net, which is upload. Neither word needed a committee.

The mirror is alŝuti. It has no page here yet, because the corpus does not use it often enough to earn a rank, but you should learn the pair together: you elŝutas from the server and alŝutas to it. Both take the ordinary accusative object. Mi elŝutis la filmon. Ŝi alŝutis sian foton.

Where it lives on this site. Esperanto hodiaŭ is the article that teaches the modern vocabulary set: retejo for a website, interreto, komputilo, dosiero, and this verb. Read it once and you can hold a conversation about a broken laptop.

You will see it hatless everywhere. Chat, forums, phone keyboards: elsxuti and alsxuti in the x-system, which is a keyboard workaround and not a different spelling. That is also why this page sits at the URL elsxuti while the word is elŝuti. Nobody minds, and the orthography article explains the whole convention.
