Translation
Christmas
Word origin
Built inside Esperanto from Kristo (Christ) and naski (to give birth): literally the Christ-birth, the same idea German expresses in Christgeburt.
- Origin
- Esperanto
- Root
- Kristo + naski
Examples
festas .
We celebrate Christmas with the whole family.
.
The children received presents for Christmas.
.
Before Christmas the town is full of light.
A compound you can read off: Kristo plus nask-, the birth root, so the festival is named for what it marks rather than borrowed as a lump. It keeps its capital letter as a festival name. The adjective is kristnaska (kristnaska , a Christmas tree), Christmas Eve is kristnaska , and ! is the greeting, in the accusative because you are wishing it upon someone.
