To say you were born you need the intransitive - Madrido - and getting this backwards is one of the classic beginner errors, because English "I was born" looks passive and tempts you into . That form exists but means you were delivered by someone, which is not what you meant. The root also gives for a birthday and for something you have had from birth, as in .
