What is your name?

My name is Marko.
.
He asked my name.
.
The town has a beautiful name.
.
We know her only by name.
The idiomatic question is not but , literally how are you named, using nomi plus the -- suffix that turns an action back on its subject. Both are understood, and the second sounds far more like a speaker than a phrasebook. Note the accusative in : the name is what was asked, so both the possessive and the noun take -n.
