English hides two verbs under one word: I wake, and I wake you. Esperanto splits them and refuses to let you muddle the two. is transitive and needs an object - - while -- turns it round so that is what the sleeper does by himself. Saying and stopping leaves the listener waiting for the object. The noun is the moment of waking, and vekhorloĝo is the alarm clock that causes it, usually against your will.
