Swap sayings with your partner

Every language has its proverbs. Trade one with your tandem partner and see if English has a match.

In your next exchange (on Tandem or Conversation Exchange), bring a French expression you have learned, explain in French what it means and give the English equivalent, then ask your partner for one from their country. Write down the new one, and what it means, in French.

Your partner is a learner too, so mistakes are expected on both sides. Ten minutes of real conversation teaches more than an hour of worrying about it.

An example you can adapt

Aujourd'hui, je t'apporte une expression : « qui vivra verra ». Ça veut dire qu'on saura plus tard. En anglais, on dit « time will tell ». Et toi, tu m'en apprends une ?

Today I have brought you an expression: 'qui vivra verra' (whoever lives will see). It means we will find out later. In English we say 'time will tell'. And you, will you teach me one?
