s'écrit avec une majuscule quand il désigne le dieu monothéiste (Dieu de l'islam, du christianisme, du judaïsme) et avec une minuscule pour un dieu polythéiste (un dieu grec). Le pluriel dieux correspond aux divinités multiples.
Les interjections mon Dieu !, bon Dieu !, Dieu merci sont très fréquentes dans la langue parlée sans nécessairement de connotation religieuse. Grâce à Dieu (thank God) et si Dieu le veut (God willing) reflètent une culture chrétienne encore présente dans les expressions figées.
