est une interjection très fréquente à l'oral français avec plusieurs fonctions. En fin de phrase, il sollicite la confirmation ou l'approbation de l'interlocuteur, comme la tag question anglaise (isn't it?, right?, you know?). En début de réponse, hein ? exprime l'incompréhension ou la demande de répétition.
Hein ? isolé est l'équivalent de "pardon?, what?" pour demander une répétition - plus familier qu'excusez-moi ? ou pardon ?. Il ne faut pas utiliser hein dans des contextes formels ou professionnels - on dira n'est-ce pas ? ou simplement reformuler. C'est un marqueur du registre oral courant.
