动物园(dòng wù yuán) - zoo in Mandarin

动物园 (dòngwùyuán) is the zoo. 动物 (dòngwù) means "animal" and 园 (yuán) means "garden, park", the same character in 公园 (gōngyuán), "park", and 花园 (huāyuán), "garden". A zoo, in other words, is literally an "animal garden".

It is a standard family-outing word, so it clusters with other trip vocabulary: 带孩子去动物园 (dài háizi qù dòngwùyuán), "take the kids to the zoo", and 动物园门票 (dòngwùyuán ménpiào), "zoo entrance ticket". A single zoo is 一个动物园 (yí gè dòngwùyuán).

Note that 熊猫 (xióngmāo), "panda", is one of the most-quoted animals in this context precisely because China's zoos are so strongly associated with them; expect it to show up whenever 动物园 does in a story or dialogue.
