Reflexive verbs
Verbs where the subject acts on itself: levantarse, llamarse, ducharse. The pronoun shift and what it means.
The short version
The reflexive pronoun is not optional
The pronoun is not decoration; the verb is incomplete without it. Levanto a las siete is broken, and it has to be me levanto a las siete. English is what causes the slip, because so many daily-routine verbs are reflexive in Spanish and not in English: llamarse, levantarse, ducharse, irse, quedarse.
¿A qué hora te levantas?
That's the gist. The full article goes deeper - more examples, the edge cases, the why - and the practice below scores like a vocabulary session and earns the same XP.
