The imperfect tense

Past for habitual or ongoing action: 'used to', 'was -ing'. Only three irregulars in the whole tense.

The imperfect is the cleanest tense in Spanish to conjugate. Two ending sets, -aba for -ar verbs and -ía shared by -er and -ir, and exactly three irregular verbs: ser, ir and ver. Tener and hacer look frightening elsewhere and are perfectly regular here. The nosotros accent is compulsory.

Cuando era niño, vivía en Londres.

When I was a child, I lived in London.
