Acostumbrarse is always reflexive and always takes a before what follows, whether that is a noun or another verb: acostumbrarse a algo, acostumbrarse a hacer algo. Learners often drop the preposition after English "get used to", but in Spanish it cannot be left out: "me acostumbré el ruido" is wrong, "me acostumbré ruido" is right.
The non-reflexive form acostumbrar exists too, meaning "to be in the habit of" (Acostumbra a llegar tarde - He is in the habit of arriving late), but the reflexive is by far the more common way to talk about adapting to something new.
