The village is situated at an altitude of a thousand metres.
Situado is the past participle of situar used as an adjective, and it almost always pairs with estar, never ser: "el hotel está situado" is right even though English "the hotel is situated" reads like a permanent, defining fact, the kind of statement that tempts a learner towards ser. Location, however fixed, is an estar matter in Spanish.
