delogi

A genuine build, and a satisfying one after the false seams in this band.Logi, rank 1865, is to lure or entice: to pull somebody towards something by making it attractive. Put de- in front, meaning away from, and you get pulling somebody away from where they ought to be. That is delogi: to seduce, to lead astray, to beguile off the path. The prefix is doing ordinary work, the root is doing ordinary work, and the sum is the meaning.

The sense range. It covers seduction in the sexual sense, which is the first thing most dictionaries list, but it is wider than that: shepherds who delogis a flock have led it off course, and money that delogas a politician has corrupted him. The common element is a wrong direction taken under enticement. Delogisto is a seducer, delogo the act.

The neighbours. Allogi is the same root with al-, pulling towards, and it is the neutral everyday word for attract or appeal to. Tenti is to tempt, which is about the pull rather than the result. Trompi is to deceive, which requires a lie where delogi requires only bait. Logaĵo is the bait itself.

And the warning its base page carries. Logi is one circumflex away from loĝi, to live or dwell. Written without diacritics they are logi and logxi, and the linkifier on this site has to be told which is which. Mi loĝas en Londono is where you live; mi logas en Londono is a claim about your effect on the population.
