The object of is the person taken in, never the lie told: you , but you mensogon. That is the split English blurs with "he cheated" and it is worth getting right early. i is the useful passive-ish form meaning to be mistaken, and is is the graceful way to admit you got something wrong without accusing anyone of anything. The root also gives trompo for a deception and trompanto for the person doing it.
