Esperanto is kinder than English here: is only ever the untruth. To lie down is , a completely different root, so the English pun about lying and lying does not survive translation. The person lied to takes , the subject matter takes . Mensogo is a lie, o a liar, mensoga false or lying as an adjective. Note that a means untrue in the neutral sense - a wrong answer is a or a, not mensoga, because a lie requires the intention to deceive.
