ho

Ho is the general-purpose exclamation, carrying surprise, delight or dismay depending entirely on the tone. It sits outside the sentence and takes a comma after it, so nothing around it changes grammatically. The set phrase ho ve is the Esperanto "alas" or "oh dear", and it is common enough in written Esperanto to be worth learning whole.
