Animal roots in Esperanto are sex-neutral by default, so is any cat; o is specifically a female one and virkato a tom. A kitten is o, using the -- suffix that gives you , o and on the same pattern. This is one of the places where the language quietly beats English, which needs a separate word for every young animal and then makes you memorise them.
