Kinship in Esperanto is built rather than listed, and is the root that hands you the rest: for aunt with the feminine -in-, oj for an uncle and aunt together via the both-sexes prefix -, and o for a great-uncle. There is no separate word for a maternal versus a paternal uncle, which will disappoint anyone coming from Mandarin, where the distinction is compulsory. If you need it, say . Stress falls on the first syllable, ON-klo, as always on the penultimate.
