pasi

Pasi is intransitive. Time passes, danger passes, you pass through a wood, but nothing takes an object. To spend time is pasigi, with the causative suffix doing the work, so mi pasigis la tagon en la ĝardeno is correct and mi pasis la tagon is the standard learner slip. The participle pasinta gives you past as an adjective, so la pasinta jaro is last year, matched by la venonta jaro for next. Preterpasi is to walk past something without stopping.
