is trying with effort behind it, the straining kind. is the neutral attempt, and it also means to test something out, so is tasting rather than striving. Both take a plain infinitive after them, no preposition. The noun names the sustained effort itself, peno a single one, and senpene means effortlessly. sits close by and leans towards taking trouble over practical arrangements.
