est une forme familiere abregee de sympathique (nice, likeable). Il est invariable en genre dans l'usage courant, meme si les grammairiens permettent sympa / sympas au pluriel. Etre sympa (to be nice / friendly) s'emploie pour les personnes et les choses.
C'est sympa (that's nice, that's kind) est une des phrases les plus frequentes du francais oral pour exprimer de la gratitude ou de l'approbation. Pas tres sympa (not very nice) est le contraire attenue. Sympa comme tout (super friendly) est une intensification familiere.
