est une forme familière abrégée de sympathique (nice, likeable). Il est invariable en genre dans l'usage courant, même si les grammairiens permettent sympa / sympas au pluriel. Être sympa (to be nice / friendly) s'emploie pour les personnes et les choses.
C'est sympa (that's nice, that's kind) est une des phrases les plus fréquentes du français oral pour exprimer de la gratitude ou de l'approbation. Pas très sympa (not very nice) est le contraire atténué. Sympa comme tout (super friendly) est une intensification familière.
