coram

Coram takes the ablative and never the accusative: coram populo, coram rege. It is built from cum and os, oris, "face", so the sense is being in someone's sight rather than merely in front of them in a queue - ante puts you first in order, coram puts you under a gaze.

It also works as a bare adverb meaning "in person": coram loqui is to speak to a man's face instead of writing him a letter, and coram agere is to settle a matter in person. Legal and ecclesiastical Latin keep it alive in coram populo, coram Deo, and the English courtroom borrowing coram nobis, "before us", the writ that says the record was in the king's own court.
