Deus, dei is a second declension masculine noun, and the genitive dei is what tells you so. Its plural is the one irregular corner: alongside dei and deis you will meet the older di and dis, and the vocative singular is deus rather than the expected dee. The dative deo turns up constantly in fixed phrases such as deo gratias, and the word runs straight into French dieu, Spanish dios and Italian dio.
