Multus, multa, multum is a first and second declension adjective whose singular means much and whose plural means many. Its comparative and superlative go their own way: plus, which in the singular is a neuter noun taking a genitive, plus vini, more wine, then plures in the plural, and the superlative plurimus. The neuter ablative multo means by much and is the standard way of strengthening a comparative, multo maior, far bigger.
