is post plus the old ablative , "after that thing", and it is an adverb only. That is the distinction to hold: post is both a preposition with the ACCUSATIVE (post , after the war) and an adverb, while can never take a noun after it, and postquam is a conjunction joining a finite clause.
In narrative it is the standard later beat of a sequence: ... ... ... postremo. It takes a measure of time in the ablative in front of it, , "a little afterwards", , "much later". The clipped rhetorical ? is Latin for "so what?".
