pro takes the ABLATIVE and only the ablative: pro , pro , pro , never an accusative. Its range is wider than the gloss "for" suggests. It covers physical position ("in front of", as a general standing before his camp), advocacy ("on behalf of", which is where Cicero's speeches get their titles: Pro Milone), exchange ("in return for") and proportion ("in proportion to", as in pro ).
