Spanish · Chapter 1 · Lesson 1 · Introduction
Introduction to Spanish
Read this first. The orientation: how Spanish works, what it costs in hours, what the apps get wrong, and how to use this curriculum.
The short version
- FSI Category I - the easiest band for an English speaker. Around 600 to 750 hours of structured study to professional level.
- The language is not what stops people. Gender, the subjunctive and the two past tenses are the four things adults actually get stuck on.
- Spain or Latin America is a fork you have to pick early, mostly for the
vosotrosforms and a handful of everyday words that do not travel. - Most working adults plateau at B1 - understood, but reaching for the same hundred words. Breaking it takes listening volume and production, not more app streaks.
