Ch 14 · Lesson 18

fue or era?

You met both five chapters ago. This is the one that keeps going wrong.

The rule

is the imperfect: what things WERE like - background, description, something ongoing or repeated. is the preterite: one completed event, finished. The same words change meaning with the tense: how it felt all the way through, sums the whole thing up as one finished experience.

  4. Ayer el viaje muy largo: diez horas.

  5. La casa blanca y muy vieja.
