Ch 23 路 Lesson 24

dijo que es, or dijo que era?

Put the reporting verb in the past and the reported verb steps back with it.

The rule

When the reporting verb is past, the verb being reported usually shifts back a tense: becomes , present to imperfect. The present can stay when the thing is still true now ( ), but when the situation itself belongs to the past the shift is required, and that is the one English speakers miss.
