Reported questions and commands
me preguntó si..., me preguntó dónde..., and me dijo que viniera - reporting yes/no questions with si, open questions without the inversion, and commands as que plus the imperfect subjunctive.
The short version
A yes/no question is reported with si
A yes or no question takes si, not que: me preguntó si tenía hambre. An open question keeps its question word and its written accent even though the question mark has gone, as in me preguntó dónde estaba el tren, and it drops the inversion, so the clause runs in plain statement order.
Me preguntó si tenía hambre.
