Translation
autumn
Word origin
From Latin autumnus, the season name English also inherited as autumn. Like the other season words it takes the plain noun ending, so 'in autumn' is simply en aŭtuno or the adverb aŭtune.
- Origin
- Latin
- Root
- autumnus
- English cognates
- autumn, autumnal
Examples
.
In autumn the leaves fall from the trees.
.
The weather is cold in autumn.
.
After the summer comes the autumn.
Note the diphthong: is one syllable, so has three syllables, not four. The four seasons make a tidy set - , , , - and all four turn into adverbs with -e when you mean "in that season".
