ĉesi

Ĉesi is intransitive, and that catches English speakers constantly. The thing that stops is the subject: la pluvo ĉesis, not something stopping the rain. To stop something else you need the causative: ĉesigi la militon. Followed by an infinitive it means to leave off doing: li ĉesis paroli. Keep it apart from halti, which is a body or a vehicle coming to a standstill, and from fini, which is transitive and means you finished the job rather than merely quit it. Senĉese gives you incessantly, and it is everywhere in the literature.
