is the verb of letting go: a plan, a claim, a hope. The thing surrendered usually arrives with , , though the plain accusative also appears. Watch the false friend: resigning from a job is or , not , so means he stopped trying, not that he handed in his notice. Cxesi stops an activity; abandons an ambition, which stings rather more.
