English hides an important difference inside sit. is the state, being seated; is the change into it, thanks to --. says the same thing from the other side, using - to mark the start of the action, and both are in common use. The accusative matters here: for resting there, with -n, because you are moving onto it. That -- versus -- pair runs through the whole language, and is one of the cleanest places to learn it.
