voir or regarder?
Seeing happens to you. Looking is something you do.
The rule
voir is what the eyes do without permission: to see. regarder takes intent: to look at, to watch. English keeps see and look apart too, but learners reach for regarder when they mean voir because it feels like the more active, more French choice.
