Maman est le terme affectif et familier pour désigner la mère, équivalent de mum (anglais britannique) ou mom (américain). Il est utilisé par les enfants mais aussi par les adultes dans un registre intime. Plus affectueux que mère (neutre ou formel).
Maman poule (overprotective mother, helicopter parent) est une expression métaphorique. Bonne fête maman (Happy Mother's Day) est la formule du jour de la fête des Mères, célébrée le dernier dimanche de mai en France. À l'oral, ma maman ou simplement maman sont tous deux naturels selon le registre.
