Ch 24 · Lesson 20

Agreeing and disagreeing

From full agreement to a flat no, with the polite middle ground in between.

Why these go together

Conversation in Spanish, in Spain especially, is often louder and more overlapping than English learners expect, and disagreeing is not rude in itself. What keeps it friendly is having the soft options ready: , and do the work English does with "I'm not sure that's quite right".

  • .

    I agree with you.

Literally: I am in agreement with you

  • .

I do not agree at all.

  • .

I do not see it that way.

  • .

    It depends.

  • ¡ !

    No way! Not at all!

    Literally: what goes

  • , .

Maybe, but I am not sure.

Literally: it can be, but I am not sure
