is strictly transitive - something lifts something else. If nobody is doing the lifting, use , the reflexive-ish -- form, which is how the sun rises and how a person gets up out of a chair. English hides this distinction under raise and rise and gets it wrong constantly; Esperanto marks it with two letters and never confuses the two. Ellevi is to lift out and o is a lever.
