Watch the prepositions, because they are doing real grammar here. Putting something in goes with the accusative, since there is movement into the pocket; something already sitting there is with no -n. Taking it out uses , not . As a first element in compounds - means pocket-sized, which gives poŝlibro for a paperback, poŝhorloĝo for a pocket watch and poŝmono for pocket money. The root also survives in for a mobile phone, which has nothing to do with , the postal service, despite looking like it.
