est une préposition exprimant l'espace, le temps ou la relation entre deux éléments ou plus. Entre deux éléments précis s'oppose à parmi (among, used with a larger group). Entre eux (between them, among themselves) exprime une relation interne. D'entre (of/among them) est la forme partitive : l'un d'entre eux.
Entre-temps (in the meantime, meanwhile) est une locution adverbiale très utile dans les récits. S'entendre (to get along) et s'entraider (to help each other) illustrent le préfixe entr- qui marque la réciprocité. Entre guillemets (in quotation marks, so to speak) est fréquent pour signaler un usage ironique ou conventionnel d'un mot.
