est principalement un adverbe invariable (together) mais aussi un nom masculin (a set, an ensemble, a unit). Mettre ensemble (to put together) et être ensemble (to be together, to be in a relationship) sont très courants. Dans l'ensemble (on the whole, overall, by and large) est une locution de bilan fréquente dans les évaluations et les résumés.
Un ensemble de + nom (a set of, a number of) est la construction nominale. Dans son ensemble (as a whole, in its entirety) s'emploie quand on parle d'un tout sans aller dans les détails.
