Word origin
A compound of the imperative vois ('see', from voir) and the adverb la ('there'). The la element descends from Latin illac ('that way, there'), so voila literally means 'see there'.

Voilà est une interjection et un présentatif désignant quelque chose d'éloigné ou récemment accompli. Par opposition, voici désigne ce qui est proche ou va être présenté. Dans la pratique, voilà a largement supplanté voici dans l'usage courant, même pour des choses proches.
Et voilà ! (there you go!, done!) marque la conclusion d'une action. Voilà tout (that's all, nothing more) clôt une énumération. C'est là que les choses sont voilà n'est pas correct ; on dit c'est là l'essentiel. L'expression voilà voilà (welll... there you have it) exprime parfois la gêne ou la résignation dans la conversation.
