Story

美měi玲líng的de儿ér子zi离lí开kāi家jiā三sān年nián了liǎo。他tā去qù大dà城chéng市shì工gōng作zuò。三sān年nián里lǐ，他tā没méi有yǒu回huí家jiā。

Mei Ling's son left home three years ago. He went to the big city to work. In those three years, he did not come home once.

每měi天tiān早zǎo上shàng，美měi玲líng都dōu去qù站zhàn上shàng等děng他tā。她tā一yī坐zuò就jiù是shì两liǎng个gè小xiǎo时shí。火huǒ车chē来lái了liǎo，火huǒ车chē走zǒu了liǎo。人rén上shàng车chē，人rén下xià车chē。美měi玲líng一yì直zhí看kàn，可kě是shì没méi有yǒu她tā的de儿ér子zi。

Every morning Mei Ling goes to the station to wait for him. She sits there for two hours at a stretch. Trains come, trains go. People get on, people get off. Mei Ling keeps watching, but her son is not there.

三sān年nián很hěn长cháng。美měi玲líng也yě老lǎo了liǎo一yì些xiē。朋péng友yǒu对duì她tā说shuō：「他tā不bù回huí来lái了liǎo，你nǐ别bié等děng了liǎo。」美měi玲líng笑xiào笑xiào，但dàn是shì还hái是shì去qù等děng。

Three years is a long time. Mei Ling has grown a little older too. Her friends say to her, "He is not coming back; stop waiting." Mei Ling just smiles, but she still goes to wait.

她tā没méi有yǒu告gào诉sù朋péng友yǒu，她tā自zì己jǐ也yě不bù知zhī道dào还hái要yào等děng多duō久jiǔ。儿ér子zi打dǎ电diàn话huà来lái，都dōu说shuō很hěn忙máng。美měi玲líng心xīn里lǐ明míng白bái：这zhè个ge孩hái子zi，一yí定dìng有yǒu一yī天tiān会huì回huí家jiā。

She does not tell her friends that she herself does not know how much longer she must wait. When her son rings, he always says he is busy. But in her heart Mei Ling understands: one day this child of hers will surely come home.

有yǒu一yī天tiān，天tiān黑hēi了liǎo，美měi玲líng还hái坐zuò在zài站zhàn上shàng。突tū然rán，她tā听tīng见jiàn一yī个gè声shēng音yīn叫jiào她tā：「妈mā！」她tā站zhàn起qǐ来lái一yī看kàn，看kàn见jiàn一yī个gè高gāo高gāo的de人rén，手shǒu上shàng拿ná着zhe花huā。

One day, when the sky had gone dark, Mei Ling was still sitting at the station. Suddenly she heard a voice calling her: "Mum!" She stood up and looked, and saw a tall figure, flowers in his hands.

是shì她tā的de儿ér子zi。三sān年nián了liǎo，他tā终zhōng于yú回huí到dào了liǎo她tā的de身shēn边biān。美měi玲líng又yòu哭kū又yòu笑xiào。儿ér子zi对duì她tā说shuō：「妈mā，我wǒ回huí来lái晚wǎn了liǎo。这zhè三sān年nián，您nín等děng得dé太tài久jiǔ了liǎo。」

It was her son. After three years, he had finally come back to her side. Mei Ling laughed and cried at once. Her son said to her, "Mum, I have come back late. These three years, you waited far too long."

美měi玲líng拿ná着zhe那nà些xiē花huā，只zhī说shuō了liǎo一yī句jù话huà：「你nǐ回huí来lái就jiù好hǎo。」三sān年nián的de等děng待dài，今jīn天tiān才cái有yǒu了liǎo一yī个gè答dá案àn。

Holding those flowers, Mei Ling said only one thing: "It is enough that you are back." Three years of waiting, and only today did it have an answer.
