is holding on, continuing to have in your grip; is the moment of taking. English blurs the two under keep and take, so the pair rewards a little care. It also licenses a second complement, , where the adjective describes the state you are maintaining and does not take -n. i means to hold on or keep oneself somewhere, and is a handle, the thing you hold with.
