This evening, the Bernard family is together in the house. Marc, the father, is in the living room. Hélène, the mother, is next to him. Léo and Sophie, the children, are there too. They have a problem. In two weeks, the family has to leave for a trip. But where? Nobody agrees.

", j' ' Bretagne," Marc. " Paul -. . ."

"Me, I feel like going to Brittany," says Marc. "My brother Paul lives there. I have to see him. It's been two years."

" Bretagne ? ? , Marc. , j' Rome," Hélène. "L'Italie, c' . C' . ."

"To Brittany? Again? No, Marc. This year, ' like to go to Rome," says Hélène. "Italy, it' beautiful. It' better. We can see things."

Léo, , . ", j' . . ."

Léo, the son, puts his head in his hands. "Me, I'd prefer to stay at home. My friends are here. We have things to do."

" ! !" Sophie. ", pars . Rome, c' ."

"Your friends! Always your friends!" says Sophie. "Me, I'm going with mum. Rome, it's great."

Marc . "Sophie, . Bretagne , c' . , . ."

Marc looks at his daughter. "Sophie, listen. Brittany too, it's beautiful. There's the family, there are friends. You're going to like it."

", ! , c' Rome ! Rome !"

"No, dad! Me, it's Rome! Everyone is going to Rome this year!"

Hélène Marc. "Marc, -. Léo Sophie . . Bretagne, ."

Hélène puts her hand on Marc's hand. "Marc, listen to me. Léo and Sophie are big now. They need to see the world. Brittany, we can go there at Christmas."

Marc . . . . Léo . Sophie . Hélène . , ' . Léo.

Marc stays calm. thinks. thinks deeply. Nobody speaks. Léo plays with his phone. Sophie waits. Hélène waits too. In house, cannot hear anything. Just Léo' phone.

"'," Marc . " Rome. Rome, Bretagne. Paul. C' , c' ."

"," says Marc finally. "We're going to Rome. before Rome, we spend three days in Brittany. We see Paul. ' my brother, it' ."

Hélène heureuse. " , . , . l' l'Italie."

Hélène is glad. "Three days, that's fine. But after, we leave. We take the plane to Italy."

Sophie . Léo . " ? , ?"

Sophie likes this idea. Léo looks at his father. "And me? Me, I stay at home?"

", . pars . , c' ."

"No, my son. You too you're coming with us. Family, it's all together."

Léo ' . ' ' . . C' .

Léo isn't pleased. But he knows that he has no choice. The family is leaving together. That's how it is.

In the evening, in her bed, Sophie thinks about Rome. Léo thinks about his friends. Marc thinks about his brother. Hélène thinks about Italy and the nice weather.

Tomorrow morning, the problem will be smaller. They'll talk again. They'll be together. They'll leave together. Brittany first, Rome after. And that's what a family is.
